Featuring Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra • David Rutherford, Music Director

Respighi: Ancient Airs & Dances, Suite II
Vasks: Concerto for English Horn*
Stravinsky: Dumbarton Oaks Concerto

*Special Guest Soloist: Dale Jones, English Horn

Almost all orchestral instruments are made of wood (with the exception of brass and some percussion), and it’s astonishing how broad a spectrum of sounds can be created with wood. The strings are featured significantly in Respighi’s Ancient Airs & Dances, the winds create most of the sound for Dumbarton Oaks Concerto by Stravinsky, and this is the perfect opportunity to hear a hauntingly beautiful concerto for English Horn by contemporary Latvian composer Peteris Vasks. No veneer in this concert – it’s all hand-crafted, solid wood throughout.
