Following tremendous response from the original presentation, Augustana Arts is pleased to present the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra (MSCO) in a reprise of the breathtaking collaboration of MSCO, Fairview High School Music and Kim Robards Dance performingChristopher Tin’s Calling All Dawns.

The ONE NIGHT ONLY encore performance will be held Friday, March 22, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at Denver’s Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre. Tickets are $30 for Orchestra and Mezzanine, $45 for Golden Circle (Premium Orchestra) and $18 for Balcony seating.

Tickets are available through TicketsWest, the official ticketing agency for this production.

Christopher Tin’s beautiful and moving song cycle earned him two Grammy awards in 2010. Calling All Dawns is contemporary music at its most relevant in a fusion of world music for orchestra, choir, soloists and dance, with sacred texts set in Swahili, Japanese, French, English, Polish, Latin, and even Maori. One of the songs, Baba Yetu, is well known as the theme for the internationally popular video game Civilization IV, and is the first video game music to win a Grammy. This song-cycle in three movements: day, night and dawn corresponds to three phases of life: life, death, and rebirth. There are songs of joy, mystery, and hardship, reflecting the complexity of our mortality. There are songs of the deepest sorrow to accompany us through death. And finally, there are songs of triumph and exultation to begin the cycle anew.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the choir and orchestra students: not only to be able to continue to work with the professional musicians and dancers, but to be able to perform at the significantly larger, and most prominent Buell Theatre at the Denver Performing Arts Complex is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for any high-school student,” stated Janice Vlachos, Director of Choirs at Fairview Music. The students will also be eligible for incentive awards for promoting ticket sales to the concert which is designed to help raise funds for FVHS Music once production obligations are met.

The Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra of Augustana Arts is well known for its performances of baroque and classical masterworks and for its exploration of lesser-known historic and contemporary repertoire. David Rutherford, the MSCO Music Director also directs the Valor Symphonics Youth Orchestra in Highlands Ranch and enjoys guest conducting and playing the bass. David is also familiar as an award winning broadcaster, heard on KVOD, Colorado Public Radio’s Classical Music Service locally at 88.1FM.
